Tenkara is the Japanese tradition of fly fishing with a fixed-length rod, no reel, and a single length of line — a system of radical simplicity that is remarkably effective on small to medium-sized trout streams. Without the reel and running line, the focus shifts entirely to presentation, drift, and reading water. Many experienced fly anglers find tenkara clarifies their understanding of currents and fish behavior in ways that conventional fly fishing doesn't force.
